  1. Need baby formula? Right now, Mexico has no shortage of supply. In fact, they have enough to feed their own newborns, as well as those in San Diego. So, parents might want to take a ride down to Tijuana to pick up formula for personal use (not for resale). The health department urges Americans to buy brands that are familiar, and advise that you do not stockpile more than a two-week supply. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 2. There has been a 40% spike in the number of COVID-19 cases identified this week in San Diego. This new surge equates to 7,008 cases in just one week and should be a wake-up call to residents. Doctors have advised that you get vaccinated and boosted, wear a mask, keep 6 feet of social distance, and wash your hands often. If you test positive for COVID-19, see your doctor to get an antiviral medicine. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
  3. It was a ‘special’ special delivery – in a San Diego restroom, by an off-duty Border Patrol Agent. Agent George Huertas, a trained emergency medical technician, assisted in the safe delivery of a baby boy. He was able to stimulate the infant to initiate breathing. Soon after, Huertas introduced the boy to his mom for the very first time. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (San Diego Patch)

  • San Diego Zoo: "The tiny takin tot has a name! Meet Jin Tong (pronounced jean tone) a rare golden takin calf and the first male golden takin born in the Western hemisphere. His name means "golden child." Jin Tong's birth is not only a huge milestone for his species, but it also helps us better understand takins to protect them in their natural habitat." (Instagram)
  • San Diego Police Department: "Today, we welcomed 42 new police officers who just graduated from the police academy! They just finished 944 hours of training in the academy (280 hours more than the state requirement). However, the training these officers will receive is far from over. Over the next few weeks, they will receive additional SDPD-specific training. After agency specific training, they begin a minimum of four months of field training with a training officer. These officers will receive over 1,200 hours (51 days) of training before they patrol your community independently. Please join us in congratulating all our new officers!" (Facebook)
  • San Diego Humane Society: "Do you ever find yourself thinking, "Why is there so much open space on my couch?" Well, we have a solution! Rain (796495) and Viz (789151) are two wonderful pups currently warming couches in loving foster homes — and they're ready to find a more permanent sofa situation! If you can picture cozy evenings with a special furiend, visit sdhumane.org/pets to learn how to take these pups from foster to furever!" (Facebook)
  • San Diego Botanic Garden: "Today is National Endangered Species Day, and here at the Garden we would like to bring attention to a plant species that we are honored to be a part of helping conserve, Cycads. You may have spotted this prehistoric looking plant throughout our Garden, with over 300 on display, our climate is similar to large portions of coastal Africa giving us the unique opportunity to grow and care for cycads without the extra need of a greenhouse" (Facebook)
  • Downtown San Diego Partnership: "Congratulations to the City of San Diego for the launch of their newest initiative, Park Social, bringing San Diego area artists and park visitors together through temporary projects that intervene and interact in the social spheres of public parks. To celebrate, they're hosting an event tomorrow at Fault Line Park with a pop-up ice cream social, an opportunity to meet the featured artists, a live performance, and more! https://www.sandiego.gov/park-social/events" (Facebook)
  • Feeding San Diego: "Today, Mayor Todd Gloria visited our Sorrento Valley distribution center to declare this Sunday, May 22, 'Feeding San Diego's 15th Anniversary Day.' We are honored!
