- It is a shocking statistic. Seventy-two percent of San Diego’s children from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods did not meet language and literacy standards in 2020-2021. Now, the San Diego Foundation and the Dr. Seuss Foundation have joined together to award grants for literacy, intended to focus on children up to five years of age. "We are excited to partner with the Dr. Seuss Foundation on early literacy," said Mark Stuart, president and CEO of The San Diego Foundation. "Their support helps intensify the focus on preparing a child to read in their earliest years — a time when brain development and learning is critical to academic success and lifelong learning." Nonprofits can apply through 2 p.m., May 6. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
- San Diego-based warships will be retrofitted to launch hypersonic missiles. The Navy expects that the missiles would fly at 17 times the speed of sound. The missiles could attack targets almost 2,000 miles away. San Diego-based General Atomics is one of the defense contractors on the hypersonic program. - Are you an older adult having difficulties with technology? Well, now there is good news! Cox Communications and San Diego Oasis have started “Tech Tank.” This one-of-a-kind center was created to give older adults a chance to increase their tech abilities and decrease their social isolation by bridging the digital divide. ‘Tech Tank’ will offer workshops, technology classes, and more. One-on-one support will also be available, both in-person and online. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (San Diego Metro)
