Here are three of the top stories in San Diego today:

1. The country is still reeling after the school mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and many have demanded that Congress do something to stop the carnage. This week the House of Representatives voted on the Protecting Our Kids Act and the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. Both passed but the votes were along party lines. 2. There have been eight times more arrests for encroachment and homelessness than there were last year. The City of San Diego is implementing “progressive enforcement,” to remove homeless people from the streets and place them into shelters. 3. A new 37-story apartment complex will rise in the East Village. However, it will have limited parking available. The goal will be to entice renters who will use public transportation or travel by bicycle. The project will have 443 units, with first floor commercial space, and amenities such as a gym, picnic areas with barbecues, shaded areas, and so forth.
