Winter Weather, Hazardous Road Conditions Prompt School Closures In San Diego County

A winter weather advisory was in effect until 10 a.m. Friday for the county's mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Some San Diego County schools were closed Friday after rainy and snowy weather in the area.

The San Diego County Office of Education announced that schools in Mountain Empire Unified School District and Spencer Valley School District were closed due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

A winter weather advisory was in effect until 10 a.m. Friday for the county's mountains, including the cities of Julian and Pine Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

"Plan on slippery road conditions," forecasters said. "The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning commute."
