  1. San Diego is heating up! Temperatures are expected to rise to 96 degrees at the coast and hit 100 degrees in the valleys. Take precautions: drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight, loose fitting clothing, and avoid the sun. "Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke," forecasters said. "Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency." To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  2. San Diego County Supervisors have voted to receive almost $12M from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development department to help homeless people in San Diego County. The funds will help develop about 100 permanent housing units. David Estrella, the county's Housing and Development Services director, said the proposal "supports the county framework for ending homelessness." 3. It's kitten season! Mother cats are having their litters, nursing them, then leaving them to hunt for food before returning to their kitties. The San Diego County Department of Animal Services is asking that residents hold off on immediately scooping up the litters they find in their neighborhoods. If the kittens are not in danger from predators, or traffic, or if they are not visibly sick or injured, it is best to let them be. Observe the kittens from a distance so that the mother feels safe enough to return to her babies. If the mother does not return after six hours, you can begin to care for the animals yourself, or contact a local animal shelter for an appointment to surrender the kittens.
