  1. Monday, May 30, is Memorial Day — the time we set aside to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Organizations in San Diego are holding ceremonies that are open to the public. If you would like to attend, there are ceremonies throughout San Diego: The Veterans Association of North County, Fort Rosecrans Memorial Day Ceremony, Mt. Soledad Memorial Day Ceremony, Oak Hill Memorial Park Event, Miramar National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony, San Marcos Cemetery Memorial Day, Chula Vista Memorial Park, and Fallbrook Memorial Day.   2. COVID-19 cases have risen, and the CDC has raised San Diego County to the Medium Community Risk Level. Residents have been urged to mask up during this holiday weekend. According to The New York Times: "An average of 1,308 cases per day were reported in San Diego County, a 76 percent increase from the average two weeks ago. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 1 in 4 residents have been infected, a total of 837,351 reported cases."   3. The program called ‘Directing Change’ is an opportunity for teens to talk about anxiety, suicide, and discrimination and to share with their peers. The contest grew from 350 films 10 years ago, to 1,000 films entered today across California, and now includes both high school and middle school students.
