The fire burned in an open field across from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Firefighters were extinguishing a fire that consumed hundreds of bales of hay Sunday morning in an open field across from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and expected to be on the scene throughout the day.
Crews responded at 11:20 p.m. Saturday to the 15000 block of Old Milky Way near San Pasqual Valley Road and worked through the night, according to the San Diego fire-Rescue Department.
Eight fire engines, four brush rigs, a water tender, a battalion chief and other units were joined by Cal Fire dozers in battling the blaze, which was still smoldering as of Sunday morning.
