Increased DUI Patrols Planned Thanksgiving Weekend​ In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego County Sheriff's Office will be out in force during Thanksgiving weekend, in an effort to stop intoxicated drivers and keep the roadways safe.

The agency has planned extra DUI patrols from Wednesday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 30. Sheriff's officials reminded the public not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which includes marijuana, over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications.

"Impaired driving will not be tolerated on San Diego County roadways," Sheriff Kelly Martinez said. "If you get caught driving under the influence, you will go to jail."

So far in 2025, deputies have arrested more than 1,000 people for impaired driving in San Diego County, according to the sheriff's office. An impaired driving arrest and conviction can cost more than $15,000 in legal and court fees.

Funding for the Thanksgiving impaired driving enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
