Inmate Walks Away From Conservation Camp In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities were searching Monday for an inmate who walked away from a conservation camp in San Diego County.

Staff from La Cima Conservation Camp in Julian discovered that Joseph Lee Randall, 28, an incarcerated person at the camp, was missing around 3:15 a.m. Monday during a routine head count, according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. After initiating an emergency count, staff confirmed Randall was not at the camp.

Agents from the department's Office of Correctional Safety were working with local law enforcement to find and apprehend Randall.

Randall is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs around 209 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt, gray sweatpants and either black boots or white tennis shoes.

Randall was sentenced on May 19, 2025, in Butte County to eight years for corporal injury, petty theft, vehicle theft and grand theft, according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
