Jeremiah Estrada Sets MLB Consecutive Strikeout Record In Padres Win
San Diego Padres new pitcher Jeremiah Estrada extended his personal, club, and MLB record for the most strikeouts in post-expansion history.

SAN DIEGO, CA—According to the Major League Baseball record books, a Southern California native now holds the record for 13 consecutive strikeouts after Tuesday night's game against the Marlins. This is the most strikeouts in a row since 1961, expansion-era baseball, according to Sports Illustrated.
Petco Park was filled with Padres pride Tuesday as reliever pitcher Jeremiah Estrada, 25, threw nothing but strikeouts to ensure the 4-0 win against the Marlins. During that feat, he secured his place in baseball history.
Estrada entered the game to "strike out the side in the 9th," according to ESPN. He left them all batters at the plate, swinging, breaking not only his personal strikeout record of 10 but also the Padres ballclub's record, setting a new Major League Baseball record.

"This is fun to watch; the speed and differential and speed of his fastball really confuse the hitters," Padres announcer Mark "Mud" Grant said during the game.
"This young man is on an amazing roll," Tony Guinn Jr. said after the game that the Padres won dramatically. Estrada thumped his chest and pointed at the sky as he was surrounded by teammates and given a "Gatorade shower" by his teammates.

According to MLB, the previous strikeout streak was 11 batters in a row, a feat accomplished by Phillies' reliever Jose Alvarado in April 2023. According to sources, Alvarado's record dates back to 1961, the year that play-by-play data became reliable.
With just 12 games under his belt, Estrada has struck out 28 batters in 16.1 innings, with an earned run average of 0.55.
Sports Illustrated reminded all that this is still an active streak.
Estrada, 25, of Indio, came to the Padres on waiver in November, transferring from the Chicago Cubs. He was recalled from Triple-A in late April to serve as a reliever after working with the Padres pitching coaches to master a new pitch.
Mike Shildt, Padres Manager, said of Estrada that he has an "elite fastball, and then tonight he was throwing some splitters that were filthy. He has a special arm and special stuff."
Estrada thanked his Pitching coach, Ruben Niebla, for working with him and Joe Musgrove, who held an offseason pitching camp.
"It's kind of hard to believe," he told reporters after the game. "I feel like I just got done playing a video game and finally accomplished a mission that I've been trying to go after for so long." He added, "I wouldn't for sure have accomplished what I accomplished today without the vibes here, the coaches here, the staff. It's all about good vibes."
