- Maritime smuggling has increased over the past few years. More and more often, Border Patrol agents have been working the San Diego Bay area with the Border Patrol Marine Unit. Now, the marine unit has added K-9s🐕to find drugs. The goal for now is to help the K-9s to become comfortable at sea. K-9s can be trained to help find drugs such as fentanyl. Right now, smugglers are bringing in M30, little blue pills, which have increasing amounts of fentanyl. "Someone picks one up, you can ingest it, and you can die immediately because you won't have the tolerance for that, just a little bit of fentanyl, like a grain of sand can kill you," explains Patricia McGurk-Daniel, chief patrol agent for the San Diego Sector. The Border Patrol Marine Unit here in San Diego looks forward to the day when the K-9s will be ready to find drugs and save lives. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. - Want a🐶dog that’s not a puppy? Well, right now the San Diego Humane Society has 172 adult dogs hoping to find their forever homes. The usual adoption fee has been waived through Sept. 18 and the dogs have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated. "This has been a challenging summer for us, with a lot of animals coming through our doors in need of our help," said San Diego Humane Society CEO and President Dr. Gary Weitzman. "Now, we're asking the community to help us help them by opening their hearts and homes to a new family member." Take a look. Maybe the perfect dog is just waiting for you.
