Local COVID-19 Case Count For Week Falls Below 2,000 Amid Slowing Trend
With the update, there have been 926,364 total COVID cases in the county and 5,507 deaths since the pandemic began in early 2020.

San Diego County public health officials on Thursday reported 1,855 new COVID-19 cases over the past week, along with nine more deaths.

The numbers cover cases recorded over the seven-day period that ended Monday. The tally of daily cases over that time:
- Monday – 210
- Sunday – 160
- Saturday –203
- Friday – 246
- Oct. 6 – 358
- Oct. 5 – 296
- Oct. 4 – 382
The weekly numbers continued their downward trajectory, from the 2,284 reported during the last week, and the 2,402 cases announced on Sept. 29.

With the update, there have been 926,364 total COVID cases in the county and 5,507 deaths since the pandemic began in early 2020.
Among the deaths, four victims were women and five were men who died between Sept. 25 and Oct. 2. Five of the people who died were 80 years or older, three were in their 70s and one was in the 60s. Six were fully vaccinated and three were unvaccinated.
Eight had underlying medical conditions.
Meanwhile, 144 patients are being treated in county hospitals for COVID, down from Sunday’s count of 151. Doctors were tending to 20 people in intensive care, according to state data, the same number as Sunday.
