Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:
- What is long COVID-19? How many have been affected by it? What are the symptoms of it? To find out, UCSD School of Medicine and Rady Children’s Hospital have joined a nationwide studied to understand the long-term impact of COVID-19. "We are excited to be a part of this national effort to learn more about long-COVID and the factors that put someone at risk for developing this condition," said Dr. Kelan Tantisira, professor and chief of the Division of Respiratory Medicine at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego." It is estimated that 10 - 30 percent of those infected have experienced long COVID-19. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (City News Service)
- Everybody in the pool! Pools and beaches have been packed with residents and visitors seeking escape from the elevated temperatures and humidity. "In San Diego, we have 70 miles of coastline, we have 20 lakes, we have over 7,000 pools in apartment complexes and homes, so there's lots of opportunity to have fun in a warm place like San Diego -- but so many children don't know how to swim," said Raul Campillo, District 7 City Council Member. San Diego Parks & Recreations Aquatics division offers classes where kids can learn to swim. "When they get out into the ocean in case they get caught in a rip current; they're scared, they need help. They can float on their back. Flip, float, and follow. If you're caught in a rip current, relax, let the current take you out. Once you're out of the current, then you can swim back to shore," explained Nicole McNeil the San Diego Parks & Recreation Aquatics District Manager. With San Diego positioned so close to local beaches, water safety is important, and all children should learn how to swim. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
- They are winners of ‘Food Network’s Cupcake Wars,” and this month they will open a second Vista location this month. They are ‘Little Cakes Kitchen,’ and they have been in San Diego for more than ten years. The family-owned bakery offers cupcake delights such as red velvet, Chocolate Toffee, and Lemon Berry. Little Cakes Kitchen will also offer classes in cake and cupcake decorating. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
