SAN DIEGO, CA — A 46-year-old man was hospitalized after falling off an electric scooter in a residential area of San Diego.

The accident occurred at 11:55 a.m. Saturday in a bike lane at 7700 Skyline Drive, near the intersection of Deerock Place in the Bay Terraces neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

"The operator lost control and fell off the scooter," the department reported.

He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol was determined not to be a factor in the collision, police officials said. But it was unclear why the man lost control of the vehicle.
