Man Fatally Shot Near Ocean Beach Pier Identified
Homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses and canvassing for security video.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities have publicly identified a man who was fatally shot over the weekend near Ocean Beach Municipal Pier.
Officers responding to a report of gunfire found Ismael Ramirez, 35, of San Diego mortally wounded at 12:23 a.m. Saturday in the 5100 block of Narragansett Avenue, according to the San Diego Police Department. He died at the scene.
Detectives believe the shooter or shooters were among a group of men and women in their mid- to late 20s or early 30s who were hanging out in a parking lot next to the pier before walking to the south and confronting the victim, police said.

Following the fatal gunfire, the group returned to the parking lot and drove east on Newport Avenue in a white sedan and blue or gray SUV. One of the vehicles may have struck another vehicle as it left the area, police said.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate and were interviewing witnesses and canvassing for security video. Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the department's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
