Man Fatally Shot In San Diego's City Heights Neighborhood

Detectives were on the scene processing evidence, interviewing witnesses and viewing security footage.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was shot and killed during an altercation with another man in San Diego, authorities said.

Someone who heard gunshots being fired flagged down officers around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of 43rd Street and Polk Avenue in the City Heights neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department. Officers checked the area and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the west alley of 43rd Street between University and Polk Avenue.

The victim, believed to be homeless, was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. His name was withheld pending family notification.

A person of interest was taken into custody but was released pending additional investigation, police said.
