SAN DIEGO, CA — Police are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man who was struck and killed by a 77-year-old woman while walking across the street in the Otay Mesa West neighborhood of San Diego, authorities said Saturday.

San Diego police were called at 6:58 p.m. Friday to the 4200 block of Del Sol Boulevard where they learned the woman was driving her 2010 Toyota Rav4 west on Del Sol when she failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the victim, who was walking south from the north sidewalk of Kostner Drive, Officer Jose Perales said.

The victim sustained severe head trauma and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Perales said.

It was determined that DUI was not a factor in the collision, police said.

The department's San Diego Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the collision and anyone with information related to it was asked to call 858-495-7800 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
