Troy Shelvin Cannon, 30, of Las Vegas, was convicted by a San Diego federal jury of sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man who sexually trafficked a woman and was arrested after assaulting her at a National City motel was sentenced Monday to more than 15 years in federal prison.

Troy Shelvin Cannon, 30, of Las Vegas, was convicted by a San Diego federal jury of sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion for trafficking the victim over the course of several months.

Prosecutors wrote in a trial brief that between June and December of last year, the woman was featured in sex advertisements in San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, and Las Vegas.

Cannon was arrested in connection with a Dec. 20, 2023, assault on the woman that prosecutors say involved choking and punching her inside a motel room.

After his arrest, investigators examined both Cannon and the woman's phones and found messages indicating Cannon had the woman work as a prostitute and made multiple threats to use violence against her, according to prosecutors.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Cannon was also arrested in 2021 for attempting to traffic a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover Las Vegas police detective.

Cannon was sentenced in San Diego federal court on Monday to 15 years and eight months in prison.
