- Mayor Todd Gloria would like to spend additional funds for programs to boost the quality of life for City of San Diego residents. Programs affected would include: the arts, homelessness, and parks, as well as large infrastructure projects. Sidewalks, library security, and policing for vacation rentals would be boosted. - At the San Carlos Community Garden, special needs students can shine! The garden offers many learning opportunities. Students get hands-on experience in the garden, creating beds, composting, and harvesting crops. According to Jessica Leiser, an occupational therapist at the Sierra School of San Diego, “Activities in the garden address sequencing skills, motor planning skills, problem-solving, attention to task, and task completion, which are areas that are difficult for a lot of our students. The garden shows that with consistency, dedication, and patience you can see progress and results. Students can access the garden if they are experiencing emotional dysregulation or sensory dysregulation in order to self-regulate and take a sensory break.” The garden, which was established with a grant from San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
