Meet Jolt.ai — Your New Workout Partner And BFF
A San Diego startup is behind Jolt.ai, a bot that will help you reach your fitness and health goals.

SAN DIEGO, CA — It’s a new year and you’re finally determined to get into shape, but you’re struggling to find motivation and you can’t afford a personal trainer to push you to the limits.
What do you do? A San Diego startup is hoping you’ll turn to Jolt.ai, your virtual best friend who will motivate you to reach your health and fitness goals — and acknowledge your accomplishments.
Jolt.ai, a bot with its own endearing personality designed to empower individuals to make their fitness dreams a reality, was developed by Rock My World Media, the makers of RockMyRun. The bot works by recording a user’s “MovePoints,” which are generated from moving. The more intense the effort, and the longer the activity, the more MovePoints the user earns.

The bot doesn’t just record your exercises, though. Just like a best friend, it recognizes your accomplishments and sends you funny GIFs and jokes.
A bot with a captivating personality is what sets Jolt.ai apart from other fitness apps, said Rock My World CEO Adam Riggs-Zeigen, who previously worked in senior business development and product management roles at Qualcomm..

“It sounds silly, but people need to be acknowledged,” Riggs-Zeigen said. “We’ve given Jolt a personality. It has a celebrity crush and a favorite food. But it also provides positive reinforcement.”
Riggs-Zeigen, who admits he struggled with fitness in the past, said the positive reinforcement is key in helping people reach their goals. With the help of three people on his staff, all of whom have psychology backgrounds, Riggs-Zeigen developed Jolt.ai to provide people with the confidence they need to reach their goals.
“Jolt helps people get into a regular routine, which helps them accomplish their health and fitness goals,” Riggs-Zeigen said. “The confidence they get from accomplishing their health and fitness goals will take them to other areas of their life. This is all geared toward helping people.”
Jolt.ai currently has about 1,000 users since its December 2017 launch. Riggs-Zeigen said users typically interact with the bot about four to five times a week, which is more than the typical fitness app.
The 5-year-old company also hopes to help gyms retain members through Jolt.ai by encouraging users to join groups for further motivation.
“The challenge facing gyms and fitness studios is they lose about 30 percent of their customer base each month,” Riggs-Zeigen said. “If you have to keep replacing members, it’s a problem.”
Riggs-Zeigen said Jolt.ai works to provide a virtual community to give the extra boost needed to stay focused.
“We’ve taken socializing and we’ve made it digital,” Riggs-Zeigen said. “It’s really powerful and exciting.”
