Mexican Filmmakers Del Toro, Iñárritu To Be Honored At Critics Choice Celebration Of Latinos
The celebration, next month at the Fairmont Century Plaza, will honor "standout Latino performances and work, both on screen and off."

Filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu, both from Mexico, were among the honorees announced Friday for the second annual Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television event.

The Critics Choice Association also revealed its Icon Award winner – the legendary late actor/producer Desi Arnaz.
The celebration, next month at the Fairmont Century Plaza, will honor “standout Latino performances and work, both on screen and off screen,” according to the association.

“These celebrations are not only reflective of the CCA’s ever-increasing diverse membership, but of the industry as well,” CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement. “The range of Latino talent in front of and behind the camera at this year’s event is incredible.”
Arnaz, best remembered for his on-screen work with wife Lucille Ball and his television production innovations on “I Love Lucy,” will be honored, with daughter, Lucie Arnaz, accepting the award on his behalf.
Del Toro, a two-time Oscar winner from Guadalajara, will receive the Career Achievement Award. Iñárritu, a four-time Oscar winner, who hails from Mexico City, will receive the Director Award, recognizing his Netflix film “Bardo.”
Among other honorees at the Nov. 13 event:
- Actor Laz Alonso will receive the Actor Award for Television for his work in Prime Video’s series “The Boys,” as will Gina Torres for Fox’s series “9-1-1: Lone Star.”
- Actor Cristo Fernández will receive the Rising Star Award for Television for his work on Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso,” as will actress Jenna Ortega for her performance as the title character in Netflix’s upcoming series “Wednesday.”
- Actor Brandon Perea will receive the Rising Star Award for Film for his work in the Universal Pictures film “Nope.”
- Director/writer/producer Santiago Mitre will receive the International Film Award for Amazon Studio’s film “Argentina, 1985.”
- Late-night personality Guillermo Rodriguez will receive the Special Honoree Award for nearly two decades of work on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
- Writer/executive producer Gloria Calderón Kellett will receive the Producer Award for Television for Prime Video’s series “With Love.”
