  1. Wondering what's happening with the area around the former sports arena property in the Midway district? There is now a proposal to redevelop the property. It is called Midway Rising. The project would include 4,250 new homes🏠🏠🏠at several price points, a 450,000-square-foot arena with a capacity of up to 16,500 people, a hotel, and 11 acres of park and open space. Mayor Todd Gloria’s recommendation for choice of developer will be presented to the City Council’s Land Use and Housing Committee in a special meeting on Sept. 8, and then go before the full council on Sept. 13. 2. It was a roundtable discussion to discuss the current crisis in child care. It included local leaders, administrators, and parents who gathered in Cardiff-By-The-Sea. “It’s about $17,000 in California for good🧒🏽🧒🧒🏿child care,” Rep. Mike Levin from North County’s 49th district told FOX 5. “That causes a lot of people that we would otherwise have in the workforce to stay home.” As a single working mom with small children, San Diego County Board of Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer knows how difficult it is to get good child care. “So many families are struggling just to get the child care they need to be able to go to work and put food on the table, but then you add onto that the imperative of ensuring that it’s good child care, that it’s quality child care, and the kids are getting up to thrive and grow,” Lawson-Remer said. The goal is to create legislation that will make childcare available at a reasonable cost. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  3. A neighborhood in Southeast San Diego has seen a dirt lot transformed into a children’s playground. “The La Paz Mini Park has been years in the making, and my administration has been focused on getting it done for Valencia🌳Park,” Mayor Todd Gloria said. “Every neighborhood deserves safe places to get outside, be active, and gather with their loved ones and😊community,” Gloria added. “Investments in projects like this one in Valencia Park will help make that a reality for each and every San Diegan.” The La Paz Mini Park is the third park that the city has created in different neighborhoods in San Diego.
