SAN DIEGO, CA — SeaWorld San Diego's new jellyfish exhibit will open March 15, the theme park announced Tuesday.

"Jewels of the Sea: A Jellyfish Experience" is described as "the first of its kind" at any SeaWorld park. The park's newest immersive and interactive attraction, which was originally slated to open last year, will showcase a variety of jellyfish species.

"After much anticipation, we are thrilled to officially announce the opening date of Jewels of the Sea: A Jellyfish Experience," said Tyler Carter, park president of SeaWorld San Diego.

"This exhibit represents a true milestone for SeaWorld, showcasing our commitment to innovation, conservation and education," Carter added. "We can't wait to welcome guests on this extraordinary journey, where they will experience the captivating beauty of jellyfish up close, while learning about the vital role they play in our oceans. This exhibit is unlike any other exhibit in the park and will offer an unforgettable adventure that is interactive and educational to view mesmerizing and mysterious jellyfish."

The exhibit features three separate galleries with several species of jellyfish, including moon, pacific sea nettles and upside-down jellyfish. Highlights include one of the largest jelly cylinders in the country, a walk-through living archway filled with jellyfish, and a fully immersive LED room that brings the wonders of the ocean to life through eight digital chapters of ocean exploration.

The multi-gallery exhibit opens with "Realm of Jellies: A Story of Water and Light." The first gallery offers interactive habitats that allow visitors to get up close to the creatures, from seeing upside-down jellyfish to touching a cascading water globe filled with moon jellies.

"The Jellyfish Passage" has a 10-foot-tall living archway of moon jellies, interactive displays, and a 14-foot-tall jellyfish aquarium, which park officials said is one of the tallest jellyfish aquariums in the country. The "Medusa Gallery" features vibrant LED visuals that transform the space into a 360-degree experience.

SeaWorld's jellyfish are cultured through a conservation-focused propagation program. The theme park offers a Jelly Up-Close Tour of its jellyfish propagation program.
