Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. It’s called Monkeypox (MPOX), and it’s caused by a virus. It presents with a multitude of symptoms, covering the skin with blisters and scabs. Though there is currently no treatment, the good news is that UC San Diego will be testing the safety of a promising drug called tecovirimat (TPOXX), which is currently used as a treatment for human smallpox. The hope is that TPOXX can treat MPOX as well. (NBC San Diego)
  2. A series of proposed new tenant protections and a resolution declaring housing a human right will be presented to the City Council on Monday. The goal is to update the 2004 Tenants’ Right to Know Ordinance, which would include relocation assistance for no-fault evictions as well as other protections for those who have lived in their rental for two years. (Voice of San Diego)
  3. More than two thousand San Diegans line up each month for food. Facing food insecurity, they have little choice — they need to feed their families. The nonprofit Feeding San Diego relies on donations to help provide food to members of our community. With the holiday season approaching, they need help from San Diegans, more than ever, to help other, less fortunate San Diegans. Please donate here. (CBS News 8)
  4. Looking to get spooked this Halloween? There are so many things to do this weekend here in San Diego. Trick-or-treat at a Halloween Spooktacular or visit the beautiful altars during Dia de los Muertos. Attend a Halloween Concert and Silent Movie: Phantom of the Opera at the Spreckels Pavilion. Visit the Julian Farm and Orchard for a Harvest Fest. Walk the terrifying Haunted Trail at Balboa Park. So, get out and have a spooktacular time! (CBS News 8)
