Moped Rider Seriously Injured In La Jolla Crash Suspected Of Drunken Driving
The moped rider was taken to a hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries.

LA JOLLA, CA — A 57-year-old man suspected of riding an electric moped under the influence of alcohol sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision with a car Wednesday in La Jolla.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:49 p.m. Wednesday when a man driving an electric moped southbound in the 6400 block of Soledad Mountain Road approached a T-intersection at Caminito Blytheville, while another was also heading toward the intersection, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police said the 57-year-old man driving the electric moped began turning left from the southbound lane, violating the right of way of a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by a 46-year-old man and colliding with the car.

The moped rider was taken to a hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries, which included a collapsed lung, a broken rib and a laceration to his arm.
He was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. The collision is under an ongoing investigation by the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division.

The Altima driver did not sustain any injuries in the collision.
