- Seeing more coyotes in your neighborhood? That’s because it’s mating season. If you’ve ever had a close encounter with one or more coyotes, you know that it can be scary for you (and your pet if you're with one). Coyotes are highly intelligent animals that will go wherever food can be found. Don't leave pet food, water or trash outside your home. Do not leave pets outside unattended. If you encounter coyotes, intimidate them by making noise, by making yourself appear large, and by not turning your back on them. You can also call wildlife services at 1-800-486-0010. (CBS News 8)
- Advocates need your help to carry out the 2023 annual "Point in Time" homeless count throughout San Diego. The count will take place in two weeks and will determine federal and state funding for the homeless in our area. The task force still needs a couple hundred volunteers to get an accurate count in the North County area. Every canyon, riverbed and community throughout our county must be included for the count. The count will take place during the early morning hours on Thursday, Jan. 26. To volunteer, contact We All Count here. (FOX 5 San Diego)
- The Lucky Duck Foundation asked the city to crack down on crimes committed by homeless residents. The foundation urged the city to set up two large shelter tents to accommodate 500 unhoused seniors and youths in a parking lot in Balboa Park. It also recommended that the city pay unhoused people to pick up trash in Balboa Park. Housing Commission staff would be available to assist, if the city decides to go forward with the proposal. - Concerned beachgoers at La Jolla Cove alerted a rescue team that a sea lion pup needed help. The SeaWorld San Diego Rescue Team picked up the pup and brought it back to SeaWorld Rescue Center and Hospital for medical care. Veterinarians checked the lethargic pup, gave him fluids, and consulted with other vets for further evaluation. SeaWorld is on call 24/7, 365 days a year to provide healthcare to animals in need. To report an animal in distress, phone 1-800-541-SEAL.(ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
