More San Diego Area Schools Closed Due To High Winds, Power Shutoffs

The schools will be closed due to high winds and potential power outage​s, according to the San Diego County Office of Education.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Critical fire weather conditions are expected Wednesday in parts of San Diego County, prompting the closure of some schools in the region.

San Diego County Office of Education announced Tuesday that schools in Julian Union Elementary School District, Julian Union High School District, Mountain Empire Unified School District, Ramona Unified School District, Spencer Valley School District and Warner Unified School District will be closed Wednesday due to high winds and potential power outages.

The County Office of Education said Wednesday that schools in Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District will also be closed, as well as Sullivan Middle School and Bonsall High School in Bonsall Unified School District and Barona Indian Charter School.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

A red flag warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for the county's mountains and valleys.
