3 Dead, 4 Hurt, Others Missing After Panga Boat Overturns And Washes Ashore

SAN DIEGO, CA — Three people died, four were injured and seven others were missing after a panga boat overturned and washed ashore Monday morning at Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego County, authorities said.

Witnesses reported seeing a small boat capsize around 6:30 a.m. in the ocean off the coast of Del Mar, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The boat, which was involved in a suspected human-smuggling attempt, was spotted near the 12000 block of North Torrey Pines Road.

Three of the victims died at the scene, officials said. Four others were taken to a hospital.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched for seven missing people off the coast of Del Mar. The search was suspended late Monday night.

Deputies assisted Coast Guard officials in providing lifesaving measures on the beach near the 200 block of Stratford in Del Mar, according to the sheriff's office.
