In-N-Out Sends Cease And Desist Letter To San Diego Restaurant

The West Coast burger giant told the neighborhood eatery to stop using the terms "Double Double" and "Animal."

SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego restaurant and bar has made some abrupt menu changes after receiving a cease and desist letter from In-N-Out.

Fairplay, in the city’s North Park neighborhood, posted the letter to Instagram with some redactions when it announced the new names for menu items.

“Please be advised that In-N-Out owns trademark registrations for ‘DOUBLE DOUBLE’ and ‘ANIMAL’ in relation to burgers and restaurant services,” the letter said.

“We’ve officially been recognized by Big Burger!” Fairplay wrote in the caption accompanying the letter on Instagram. “Plus we wanted to announce we’ve made some sudden name changes on our menu. And seeing how it’s National Cheeseburger Day, this feels like the perfect time to pop In-N-Grab a Burger Burger & some Secret Menu Fries.”
