Here are the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than morphine. It’s killing more and more people in the unsheltered community each year. Now, the drug used to reverse opioid overdoses, Narcan, is being widely distributed among the homeless community here in San Diego. The goal is to reverse opioid drug overdose and save lives. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Chula Vista has a new privacy policy which is causing considerable controversy. The policy bans the sale of data picked up by police surveillance tools and in other ways. Privacy advocates say that the policy has many loopholes and information could still be lawfully sold. Some think that the policy should have been given the weight of a law to ensure that personal information will not be sold to companies for profit. (KPBS)
  3. It's called "Dump Day" and it’s part of the Clean California initiative to keep roads and waterways clear of garbage. On Dec. 17 from 8 a.m. - noon, residents can dump tires, metal, plastic, glass, wood, home appliances, landscape trimmings, mattresses and more. Hazardous wastes, such as batteries, paint, oils and flammables will not be accepted. Further information can be found here. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  4. Want your picture taken with Santa? The good news is that Santa is coming to town in Fashion Valley. Families and visitors can experience the holiday season with a great photo-op with Santa. In addition, pets can join in for photos on Pet Night. Don't miss it. For more information, click here. (San Diego Magazine)
