Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. San Diego County wants to save lives. For this reason, the County will soon deploy at least a dozen free Narcan vending machines across San Diego to help fight the opioid epidemic. Narcan is a drug that can save the life of a person who overdoses on opioids. "A very large majority of the people who I've engaged with have come back to me after their overdose reversal and told me this has been a life-changing experience," said Tara Buesig-Stamos of Harm Reduction Coalition San Diego. “What this allows is for people to get their lives in a space where they can make those positive changes. They can't do it if they're dead and everybody's life does matter." To find where Narcan is available call 211. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
  2. The Solana Beach School District has a new plan for vetting books. Some books would be available only with parental permission. There are parents who do not want their children to read about ‘Debatable Topics.’ Other parents fear that the plan will limit student’s access to books about gender diversity. LGBTQ children are in the classroom. "This would really send a message to kids that this book and their identity is something that they should be ashamed of," and Max Disposti, who runs the North County LGBTQ Resource Center. 3. She chases balls and plays tug-of-war. She seems as energetic as other 2-year-old dogs. There is only one difference. Bebe has no back legs. Bebe was abandoned just months after birth. Her health went from bad to worse and her legs needed to be amputated. The German shepherd/husky mix has been up for adoption for quite a while. “She chases lizards, she takes naps, she loves her toys,” said Erica Garbarini, who fosters dogs for The Animal Pad in La Mesa and recently cared for Bebe. She moves well with wheels that have been created for her. She is incontinent so she wears diapers in the house. If you are interested in adopting Bebe, you can apply directly on The Animal Pad’s website. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
