- SDG&E customers may get some relief from the skyrocketing natural gas bills they received in January. Over the past few weeks, natural gas prices have dropped by 68 percent due to recent changes in the market, and it's certainly good news for consumers. Why didn’t the drop in price come sooner? SDG&E says it purchased gas at the higher cost and that cost must be passed along. Consumers remain convinced they were being gouged. (CBS 8)
- First Lady Jill Biden is coming to San Diego this weekend to support the Biden-Harris Cancer Moonshot and to meet with military families here. The goal of the Cancer Moonshot is to lower the cancer death rate by 50 percent within the next 25 years, and to improve access to cancer screenings and early detection in the underserved community. While here in San Diego, Biden will visit crew and families at the USS Gabrielle Giffords at Naval Base San Diego, followed by a visit to meet with military families at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic in Oceanside. (Patch)
- On Wednesday, two German Shepherds, Indy and his sister, were outside playing, when Indy fell into a 30- to 50-foot hole in a South Bay backyard. After several unsuccessful tries, firefighters were finally able to rescue Indy, and the excitement at the scene was palpable. Indy suffered a few cuts and bruises and was covered in mud, but was alive and well. He was later taken to a veterinarian for treatment. According to his owner, Indy is a veteran of a sheriff’s department in Arizona. (NBC San Diego)
- An emaciated black bear cub was rescued in Bakersfield and taken to the Ramona Wildlife Center for rehabilitation and care. The orphaned cub will join four others already at the center and will be rooming with a black bear cub of similar age. The two will stay outdoors in a pre-release enclosure for the next three months. They will have access to trees, shrubs and natural substrate, and will be able to run, climb and play. The Wildlife Center loves caring for these animals but it's expensive. A gift of any size would be appreciated to provide the specialized support these cubs need. (Patch)
