Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:
- Omicron BA.2 and BA.2.12.1 are sweeping across the county and San Diego medical experts are worried. The new surge could cause a rise in the number of hospitalizations. “The respite we get between surges seems to be decreasing,” said Corinne McDaniels-Davidson, epidemiologist and the director of the San Diego State University Institute for Public Health. “The question is: Where does it go from here?” To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. - Although there is more housing inventory available in San Diego right now, many home shoppers are slow to put in an offer. The rising interest rates may have resulted in cautious buyers. "The buyer pool is shrinking. Some buyers have just continued to rent. It is becoming just a little too expensive for them," San Diego mortgage broker Cameron Harper said. “When they were in the mid 3s, compared to the low 5s on an $800,000 mortgage, about the median home price in San Diego. That could mean a $700 increase in the house payment,” Harper said. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
- At the San Ysidro Port of Entry, travelers waiting to cross the border may be in line for several hours to get through the checkpoint. Meanwhile, cars are idling and producing massive amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. This air pollution may damage lungs and cause asthma in children. High emissions are also harmful to the planet. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Voice of San Diego)
- Back in April, at least 27 people were infected with Hepatitis A after eating strawberries. Now a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of victims here in San Diego. FreshKampo and HEB branded strawberries were named in the suit. FreshKampo stated that it would work "to determine where a problem may have occurred along the supply chain and take necessary measures to prevent it from happening again."
