  1. County Supervisors proposed a plan for a new initiative to help homeless veterans in San Diego. The goal is to provide the resources necessary to get homeless veterans off the street, into shelters, and eventually into housing. If the policy passes, stakeholders, lawmakers, local representatives, as well as those who have experienced homelessness, would join together to help veterans, depending on their needs. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Been wondering about those loud booms heard around San Diego this week? Residents in Pacific Beach, Del Mar, Mission Valley, Kearny Mesa, and East Village have been complaining about the noise and shaking of their homes. The ruckus is being caused by pre-planned military training exercises, using live-fire operations with high explosive munitions. Some call it the sound of freedom. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  3. Mary Shepardson was truly history maker. She served on Poway’s first city council, was the city’s first female mayor, and was one of Poway’s preservers of history. A founding member of the Poway Historical and Memorial Society, Shepardson was also its current president. As a journalist, she was a monthly contributor to the News Chieftain. Mary’s passing is a huge loss to her friends and to the City of Poway. R.I.P. Mary Shepardson. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
  4. Through Feb. 12, the Fleet Science Center welcomes applications for the Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering (BE WISE) program. This free program offers females and female-identifying students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) opportunities to collaborate at STEM companies, universities, and research facilities.
