Here are three of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. Will there be outdoor dining at restaurants this summer? To date, only 19 restaurants have applied for the necessary permits for outdoor dining. The cost of the permits ranges from $10 - $30 per square foot, plus inspection fees. If restaurant owners do not apply for 'Spaces as Places' permits, they will need to get permits to tear down their outdoor dining areas. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link.   2. She works with students attending the TRACE Alternative School, and she was awarded the Jan Merritt Leadership Award for her work. Her name is Rachael Borrelli, and she is coordinator of volunteer and public service at the Department of Animal Services. Borrelli helped students interact with cats and dogs. She helped students them build their communication and team building skills. Borrelli also works with five other special needs groups and helps approximately 15 students.   • San Diego Botanic Garden: There is a giant bloom in the Lawn Garden. It has banana-like leads that can reach 20 feet tall.
