  1. Horizon Airlines flight passengers were delayed at San Diego International Airport on Thursday due to an unexpected situation on the runway. "2179 sir... You're not going to believe this, but we are unable because of a pelican sitting here on the taxiway... He's not moving. You got somebody that can come down and move him out of the way?" A spokesperson stated that the pelican had landed "on the center line of taxiway bravo. It was not injured; however, I was told it was a bit reluctant to leave." After a short while, the aircraft was able to continue on its way to Everett, Washington. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Ever wonder what child care costs are here in San Diego? As parents already know, for one infant in a licensed child care center, the cost is over $19K, and more than $33K for two children. It is a financial burden for many families, and there is also a shortage of spots at local child care centers. How does this impact San Diego parents and businesses? “Many parents are forced to make a difficult decision — stay engaged in the workforce, or care for their children themselves,” said Katie Rast of The San Diego Foundation. “The availability of quality, affordable child care is critical to maintaining and growing San Diego’s workforce.” To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 3. It is called ‘Park Social,’ and it is a public art initiative to bring local artists and visitors together. In May, the program will launch in 28 different San Diego parks. City of San Diego officials hope that visitors and residents will visit the parks while experiencing ‘engaging and thought-provoking ways to experience public art.’ The purpose of the initiative is to help support local artists. The city’s Public Art Fund will fund Park Social, along with an endowment from an anonymous family bequest. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
