- Think the pilot shortage is a new phenomena? "The pilot shortage has been around for at least 10 years. We created a few programs over the time to try to fulfill the need for pilots with all the airlines and during [COVID-19], it obviously got a lot worse. The airlines shut down. Pilots were retiring and nobody was getting hired," said Ronnie Greathouse, chief flight instructor at Coast Flight Training. The school has trained 700 commercial pilots since 2015. Airlines have helped to fund the $85K training program for students. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
- Sewage issues have persisted at some San Diego beaches for decades. Now, notices will be posted at beaches in Coronado, the Silver Strand, and Imperial Beach to alert beachgoers to sewage in the area. Notices will be one of three types. The first will show the bacterial level in the water. The next notice will state that water pollution may cause illness. The third notice will simply warn 'Keep Out!' The new postings will go up on Friday. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
- Money is tight these days, and we could all use a break in prices. Whether you’d like brunch, lunch, dinner, picnic, or barbecue, there is a dining deal for you this July 4. From doughnuts at Krispy Kreme, to dinner at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, you can get a deal no matter your style. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (San Diego Patch)

Are you a San Diego resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
