- A small plane made an emergency landing near South Rancho Santa Fe Road and Melrose Drive in San Marcos over the weekend. "He did an amazing job frankly on being able to land here on Rancho Sante Fe and avoid all of the homes and structures around. Avoided all but one vehicle that had minor damage," said David Pender, the battalion chief for the San Marcos Fire Department. The plane hit a street sign and one car. No major injuries were reported. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
- It is true. Those protective masks are back in use. San Diego Unified School District, Sweetwater Union High School, and San Diego Naval Bases have all returned to mask mandates due to the high level of COVID-19 here in San Diego. At SDUSD, the mandate applies to students and staff in summer school programs. At Sweetwater, those who have been vaccinated are strongly recommended to wear masks. Unvaccinated staff members are required to wear masks when in the presence of others. At military installations in the San Diego region, masks will be required for everyone. To date, the County has not implemented a mask mandate for San Diego County. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
- It is called ‘Gossip Grill,’ and it is now the only woman-focused bar in San Diego. “There’s something special about the women's bar and being able to be within a safe space where straight men aren't hitting on you,” said Moe Girton, owner of Gossip Grill. “Where you can bring your girlfriends and hang out, but also be in a part of the community and be accepted.” Girton started her business about 12 years ago because she saw a need in the community. “San Diego used to have two to three women's bars at all times for many, many years, and then after both selling or closing, we didn't have any for a number of years,” said Girton. - It is an opportunity for people in custody to learn about growing their own food and eating healthy. It is also an opportunity for prisoners to work in teams and to take on responsibilities related to a project. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Sheriff’s Gardening and Landscaping program teaches them to manage a farm stand, to sell products, and to provide excellent customer service. The inmates also manage a farm stand at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department headquarters in Kearny Mesa. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
