Here are three of the top stories in San Diego today:
- Residents are concerned over potholes appearing on their streets after the rains of the last couple weeks. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has addressed these concerns and commented that city crews are working around the clock to get those potholes patched. Gloria asked residents to go to the city’s ‘Get It Done’ webpage and report the pothole to the city. With more than 2,000 reports, nine crews are in operation right now. (FOX 5 San Diego)
- There are new state laws to expand insurance access and to fight insurance-related fraud. In San Diego, disaster insurance is often difficult to find, but now the new law allows the creation of Climate Resilience Districts statewide. These new districts can help mitigate risk before a disaster occurs, and can promote recovery. It is hoped that these changes will lower the risk and expand access to insurance throughout the county. - With temperatures in the 40s, as well as heavy rains which drenched the area, four new inclement weather shelters have opened for in need of shelter. The shelters are located at Father Joe’s Villages at the Joan Kroc Center, the Living Water Church of the Nazarene at 1550 Market Street, and at the San Diego Rescue Mission at 120 Elm Street. The program is a joint effort between the San Diego Housing Commission, the City of San Diego, and the shelters themselves. (Times of San Diego)

- Lucky dogs: ""Who's luckier, the dogs or us?" Adopters Dave and Monica share the special story of how the dynamic duo Tango and Whiskey — formerly known as Roger and Elbrus — stole their hearts during our #Gloria100 adoption promotion. It's safe to say Tango and Whiskey hit the family jackpot and our staff and volunteers are more than thrilled to see this pair of loveable giants go home, after being in our care since early December." (San Diego Humane Society via Facebook)
- City of San Diego: "In the past week, City of San Diego reservoirs have collected 7 billion gallons of water from rain and runoff! To put it in perspective, that's enough water to supply all 1.4 million City residents for six weeks." (City of San Diego via Facebook)
- Plants in vibrant color: "Did you know poinsettias can be kept year round and will once again bloom their vibrant colors come winter? Growing into tree-like plants, this holiday staple is a great indoor and outdoor plant throughout the year. Growing along the edge of our Herb garden, you can see how these plants grow in ground and find propagated plants for sale in our Plant and Gift shop!" (San Diego Botanic Garden via Facebook)
- Lunar New Year: "Library Foundation SD would like to wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year! The San Diego Public Library is hosting festive celebrations, like the one from our Balboa branch, all over the city!" (Library Foundation SD via Facebook)

The Patch community is saddened by the recent event that took place in the Monterey Park area of California. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! ❤️
