Power Outages, Strong Winds Force School Closures In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — Some San Diego area schools were closed Thursday amid critical fire weather conditions in the region.
The San Diego County Office of Education announced that schools in Mountain Empire Unified School District and Warner Unified School District were closed due to strong winds and power outages.
"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

A red flag warning was extended until 10 a.m. Friday for the county's inland valleys and mountains, according to the National Weather Service. A high wind warning will be in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for the mountains and valleys.
