Here are five of the top stories today in San Diego:
- While rooftop solar owners now make 30 cents per kilowatt, a new proposal by the state Public Utilities Commission would lower credits for new rooftop solar owners. Under the new proposal, rooftop solar owners would only make 8 cents per kilowatt. Will this change halt San Diego’s solar industry? According to the Protect Our Communities Foundation, a solar advocacy group, “This won’t kill the solar industry. SDG&E has the highest electric rates. People are still going to be installing solar.” (Patch)
- Approximately 48,000 academic workers at the University of California may strike. This action would affect four UAW bargaining units representing teaching assistants, postdoctoral scholars, researchers and others, including those at UCSD. Higher pay, longer family leave, passes for public transit are among the demands on the table. UC said it offered proposals that would increase wages, extend paid leave, increase child care benefits and cover all campus fees for eligible workers. However, the two sides remain far apart on the issues. (La Jolla Light)
- The Greater San Diego Association of Realtors received the coveted "Diamond" accreditation from the National Association of Realtors. During the past year, the San Diego Association met "40 benchmarks for key commercial services and for member engagement." The association is known for its informative property tours; for bringing together developers, brokers and analysts; for building relationships with commercial groups such as the American Institute of Architects; for conducting education courses; and for "Commercial Scoop," a video about a variety of sectors.
