Here are the top stories in San Diego today:
- California Attorney General Rob Bonta commended San Diego for putting into place 'red flag laws' aimed at preventing gun violence. These laws, also known as gun violence restraining orders (GVROs), allow police to temporarily remove firearms from potentially dangerous people. On Thursday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta visited San Diego to commend efforts to prevent gun violence. Disgusted with the gun violence nationwide, Bonta commented: “There have been over 400 mass shootings so far just this year… more mass shootings this year than there are days in the calendar,” said Bonta. “Others should take San Diego’s lead… be aggressive. Use the tool that is there… the tool that can prevent mass shootings,” he said. The tool Bonta is referring to is GVROs: gun violence restraining orders. - It would be built near the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center now under construction. It would be a massive sports🏟️and🎵entertainment venue on the bayfront in Chula Vista. Frederick McDonald rolled out his presentation to the Chula Vista City Council this past week. The development would include retail, a hotel, a dock-and-dine, aquatic athletic center, youth sports area, as well as the entertainment complex. Councilmembers were very positive about the plan. - Ever wonder what it takes to be a San Diego Sheriff's Department emergency dispatcher? If so, listen up! Emergency service dispatchers are the link between persons in danger, 📞and the help they need. Dispatchers answer 800,000 calls for assistance each year. Dispatchers must go through intensive training for about one year, and they must pass the ‘CritiCall’ test. “If you can think quickly and respond to those scenarios. We’re typing ⌨️ all day long and spelling is important, how fast you can type is important. If you can comprehend what the caller is saying and put it into a form that the radio📻side can also understand,” said Gina Thompson. “If you want to make a difference, and you want to help somebody, then this is the kind of job that you could do that.” Experience is not necessary, but a high school diploma is required. You must be willing to work a flexible schedule. Trainee positions are available now. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
