  1. It was such sad news! A Carlsbad mother lost her life while riding an e-bike. In addition, three other e-bike riders were also killed in various accidents in San Diego. These battery-powered bikes (e-bikes) have become very popular, but there has been concern about the safety of riders. This week Governor Gavin Newsom signed🖋️a bill that will provide funds💲to the California Highway Patrol to create statewide standards for e-bikers. "That program will be available online for any school, employer, or anyone else to access if they want to provide e-bike education,” said William Rhatigan, advocacy director for the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition. “I think it's a great step in the right direction.” To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 2. If you want to build🏗️that extra bedroom🛏️ in your home🏠, you will need to be patient. The City of San Diego is overloaded with requests for building permits, and this overload is resulting in long delays. The delays began during the pandemic and continues due to the skyrocketing number of requests for permits. "You used to be able to walk into our lobby, sit there and wait, meet with several different people over the counter, and potentially get your permit within a day or two. That process right now takes upwards three or four months," said Elyse Lowe, director of the city's Development Services Department. The City is working towards improvements to speed up the process. 3. Good things😊have been happening! San Diego’s unemployment rate has decreased⬇️ from 6.9 percent in July 2021 to only 3.1 percent in July 2022. Year-over-year employment growth📈 has been reported in government, education, health services, trade, transportation, utilities, construction, and information services. Leisure and hospitality also grew adding 26,300 jobs. Accommodation added 21,300 jobs, while food services added 17,000 jobs. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
