Here are four of the top stories in San Diego today:
- Once again, our region has made an effort to reduce carbon emissions. The San Diego International Airport has now been awarded the highest level of certification, Level 4+ ‘Transition.’ This award came from the Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA). According to its website, "the airport achieved this certification through a series of programs that have increased the use of carbon-free electricity and all-electric vehicles, facilitated carbon-emission reductions by airline and rideshare partners, and enabled carbon-offset purchases by our passengers, among other efforts." This is a win for everyone! (San Diego International Airport)
- According to the San Diego City Auditor, body cam footage was not recorded in 40% of enforcement calls last year. Here in San Diego, police officers are required to record the incidents, but in many cases, nothing was recorded, or incidents were only partially recorded. Chief of Police Dave Nisleit said he would discuss the issue with the union before taking action. Meanwhile, the department will work with the City Auditor on other issues. In SD there is no policy on when body cam incidents are released. (NBC San Diego)
- San Diego County has a new top crop. "For the past 12 years, 'Ornamental Trees and Shrubs' had been the county’s number one crop. But in 2021 it was replaced by 'Bedding Plants, Color & Perennials, Cacti & Succulents,' which ranked second in the previous two crop reports." (Times of San Diego)
