San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization Collects $178,630 To Help The Needy
CECO has distributed $178,630 in grants to 92 nonprofit organizations that help the needy throughout the San Diego region.
SAN DIEGO, CA — 92 nonprofit organizations throughout the San Diego region have benefitted from the the distribution of $178,630 in grants from the San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO). Funds are collected from donations made by County of San Diego employees and retirees.
CECO is the charitable arm of the County of San Diego and San Diego Superior Court and has been offering assistance to local non-profit programs and employees and retirees in crisis since 1956.
"96 different programs and 92 different agencies are doing tremendous things in our community to help people in need and it runs the full gamut from $123.38 that is going to fund a refrigerator for a group that's providing services to victims of torture to a little over $9,200 to the San Ysidro Health Center for an x-ray sensor, books for the San Diego literacy council, microscopes and living close Discovery Center. This is a great program all operated and run by our county employees all at no cost, all volunteer labor," said Supervisor Greg Cox of the First District.

CECO presented checks to recipients at its annual awards breakfast, some of the organizations recieiving grants were Access Youth Academy, Chicano Federation, San Ysidro Health Center, Somali Bantu Association of America and Urban Corps of San Diego County.

County Employees Giving Back to the CommunityCECO is managed by County employees and distributes 100% of donations to the San Diego community by way of grants to local non-profit programs and assistance to employees in crisis. For more information, please see the CECO Bylaws.
- To stimulate among the employees and retirees of the County of San Diego and San Diego Superior Court an interest and concern towards the health, recreation, and human care needs of the local community.
- To encourage generous support of organized community campaigns for established health, recreation, and human care service organizations.
- To collect monies for distribution to established health, recreation and human care service organizations.
