- COVID-19 cases are on the rise again in San Diego. "If you're already vaccinated, then treatment gives you extra protection, and it can reduce your risk of hospitalization or worse even if you're not," said Dr. Cameron Kaiser, county deputy public health officer. "Treatment works best if it's started as soon as possible after infection, so get tested as soon as symptoms develop." There are several treatment options available to treat the disease. "Treatment helps," said Kaiser, "but the best approach is always prevention." To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
- The City of San Diego needs to spur the construction of housing for middle-income residents. A panel of industry experts and housing advocates created by Mayor Todd Gloria, has suggested softer rules for removing historic structures, complying with water pollution mandates, and using cheaper building materials. They have also suggested a vacancy tax, developer fee reductions, and additional density bonus programs for middle-income housing. Will these suggestions fly? “I think what is really different is not necessarily the ideas but that we have a mayor and — I believe — a council that is committed to actually turning these into actions,” LaCava said. - Rachel’s Promise provides shelter beds to homeless women with serious medical conditions who need a safe place to recover. The shelter is a collaboration between the city’s Homelessness Strategies and Solutions Department and the San Diego Housing Commission. Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego is under contract to offer housing navigation assistance, meals, laundry facilities, showers, mail, telephone services, and clothing. One of Mayor Todd Gloria's goals for his administration was to increase the number of shelter beds in the city. Total shelter capacity has increased by 25% since April 1, 2021.
