San Diego Man Killed By Flesh-Eating Bacteria: Report

A local father thought he had the flu when he went to the doctor, but he died a few days later.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- A San Diego man who went to the doctor at the end of December for flu-like symptoms died recently from a flesh-eating bacteria. NBC7 reported Adrian Munoz of Chula Vista suddenly died on Jan. 2, leaving behind his wife and two children.

NBC7 said Munoz's doctor told him he had the flu, until matters became worse.

"Blood work was done during a return trip to the emergency room and doctors discovered he had Necrotizing Fasciitis, an aggressive bacterial infection that targets tissue under the skin," the news station reported. "Adrian spent the next days in and out of the operating room where surgeons worked briskly to remove muscle tissue compromised by the bacteria, but they just couldn't keep up."
