San Diego Pride Goes Virtual, Calls For Submissions

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego Pride won't be held in person this year, but that isn't stopping the city's LGBTQIA+ community from celebrating the annual occasion.

In a release, San Diego Pride said it's taking this year's celebration online, aiming to share stories of the LGBT community and other marginalized communities in the fight against social justice.

To do so, it's calling for community members to submit 15 to 30 second videos discussing what Pride means to them, personally. Organizers say people who share their honest stories creates solidarity and changes society.

Videos can be submitted online using the Share Your Pride portal. Pride volunteers are also asked to submit videos discussing why they volunteer.

“We are asking our entire community to be a part of San Diego Pride 2020 by sharing their personal voice, unique story," San Diego Pride Executive Director Fernando Z. López said in a statement. "Each of us knows the value of what our experiences at Pride have meant to personally for our lives. Where we met our found family. Where we had our first kiss in daylight. The first time we felt free. The first time we felt home.”

The theme of this year's pride is Together We Rise, which focuses on collaborative social justice. Organizers say their goal is to shed light on intersectional ways to impact the community, region and movement toward progress.

Nonprofit San Diego Pride has distributed over $3.2 million to support its mission: "fostering pride, equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally."
