Three schools in San Diego were placed on a lockdown as deputies searched for a suspect.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Three schools in San Diego were placed on a lockdown Tuesday as deputies searched for a man who led police on a pursuit before running onto campus. The lockdown was placed at Gompers Preparatory Academy, Horton Elementary School and Millennial Tech Middle School in the Chollas View area around 2 p.m.

About 20 minutes later, the suspect was found at Gompers Preparatory Academy on 47th Street and taken into custody. Sheriff's deputies said the suspect escaped on foot from a traffic stop.

"Please know that your child is safe, and campus is open for usual after-school activities," Gompers Preparatory Academy wrote on Twitter.
