3 Found Dead In Well In Baja California; San Diego Surfer Among Deceased: Reports

SAN DIEGO — Three bodies recovered Friday from a 50-foot well in Baja California have been identified as a San Diego man and two brothers from Australia, according to reports, which said the trio are believed to have been killed by thieves who wanted their truck tires.

The remains are those of Jack Carter Rhoad of San Diego and Jake and Callum Robinson of Australia, Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade Ramírez confirmed Sunday evening, according to Border Report. Their bodies were in an “advanced state of decomposition,” according to Border Report.

The three men had been camping and surfing along the coast south of Ensenada before they disappeared last weekend, the Associated Press reported. They are believed to have resisted robbers and been shot, killed and dumped in the well, according to Border Report.

Prosecutors were questioning three people in connection with the case, the Associated Press reported, one of whom — identified by his first name, Jesús Gerardo — is thought to have participated in the killings and has a criminal record.

The well also contained a fourth body that had been there far longer, according to the Associated Press.
